For project three, my main goal was to challenge myself with new softwares. I really focused a majority of my attention to After Effects, since it was the software I had the most trouble with learning. I wanted to create at least over a minute of animations, and I was successful! My video piece, “What The F*** Happened Last Night,” is a personal narrative about myself and my cat waking up after a night out on the town. Like a lot of mornings, I don’t always remember what happened the night before. This short film explores the bad habits I get myself into on these nights, with a light-hearted and a comedic approach. Through animations, I wanted to portray doodle-like characters getting themselves into some mischievous things. By choosing to doodle my own character and object sheets, I feel as though I was able to create a consistent narrative and aesthetic throughout the majority of the film. Furthermore, I didn’t really want to use any dialogue or narration. This piece is about the visual aspects, with the doodles and movements giving the audience enough information without spoken words. If there was one thing I wish I focused on more in this film, was compiling more and better folly sounds. Another aspect I wish I touched more on was the actual recorded footage of me and my cat. I wish there was better audio, lighting, and overall professionality of the real footage. Other than that, I was very pleased with the final result, and super excited to continue utilizing photoshop, after effects, and premiere to create more animated versions of my doodles!
